A Better Way to Read and Capture Web Content
Many Logseq users have been looking for an effective way to highlight and annotate web content directly in the browser before sending it to their knowledge graph. With the shutdown of Omnivore, a popular read-it-later app that many relied on for this workflow, we’re excited to introduce our new Highlight feature as a powerful alternative.
Send to Logseq’s Highlight feature transforms your browser into a dynamic reading environment, allowing you to mark important passages, annotate images, add notes to your highlights, and seamlessly capture everything into Logseq.
Key Features
Create Highlights Effortlessly
- Text Highlighting: Select any text on a webpage, then right-click and choose “Highlight selection” or use the shortcut Option + D (Mac) / Alt + D (Windows/Linux). You can customize these shortcuts in your browser’s extensions settings.
- Image Highlighting: Right-click on any image and select “Highlight image” to include visuals in your captured content.
- Mixed Content: When your selection includes both text and images, everything will be highlighted together.
Work with Your Highlights
- Interactive Actions: Click on any highlight to reveal an action panel with options to:
- Copy the highlighted text
- Add notes to your highlight
- Remove the highlight
- Persistent Highlights: Your highlights are saved locally in your browser, so they’ll still be there when you return to the page later.
Effortless Capture to Logseq
- Floating Action Button: When a page contains highlights, a convenient floating action button appears, allowing you to:
- Capture all highlights and notes to Logseq in one click
- Remove all highlights from the page
- Repositionable Interface: Hover over the floating action button to drag it to your preferred position on the page.
Customizable Templates
When capturing highlights to Logseq, the default template organizes your content as follows:
{{#captureHighlights}}
{{title}}
URL:: [{{title}}]({{pageUrl}})
Date:: [[{{date}}]]
{{#highlights}}
{{highlight}}
{{#note}}
> {{note}}
{{/note}}
{{/highlights}}
{{/captureHighlights}}
You can customize this template to match your personal Logseq workflow. For detailed instructions on setting up custom templates, visit our Custom Template guide.
